About

Born and raised in Dongguan, China, huiyin zhou 徽音 (they/she, ta/她/佢) is a transnational queer feminist organizer, community-based artist and documentarian, writer and translator.  Working with prose, documentary poetry, digital/film/polaroid photography, and sound, their multimedia digital installations traverse the boundaries of art, oral history, and (auto)ethnography. huiyin speaks into the silences of marginalized memories/histories, the revolutionary politics of feminist living/rooms, the intimate kinships and spiritual presences of ancestors. They are currently building a Chinese queer feminist base in Triangle area, NC, New York City, and beyond. They are putting together a Chinese feminist archive that centers the processual, the communal, and co-creative processes of political theorizing and narrativizing.

huiyin co-founded the Chinese Artists and Organizers Collective  (CAO离离草) in August 2022, and have since organized many community-based poetry writing workshops, performances, and healing spaces. visit caocollective.com/ @caocollective/ caocollective@gmail.com.

huiyin is trained in Cultural Anthropology, Asian American and Diaspora Studies, and Documentary Studies at Duke University, Durham, NC.
